While it might not have been quite as dramatic as his 2025 win, Rory McIlroy certainly didn't make things easy for himself in claiming a second Green Jacket.
Nobody has held a bigger 36-hole lead at the US Masters than McIlroy's six-shot advantage heading into Saturday, an advantage that was quickly reduced to four, then two, then zero. Partly in thanks to the Northern Irishman's Saturday struggles and Cameron Young's superb play, the reigning Masters champion and reigning Players champion would start on Sunday tied at -11.
Even on Sunday, McIlroy made things difficult, finding himself three shots back of the lead at one stage, but despite a litany of top-class players on the leaderboard, no one was quite able to challenge McIlroy once he reclaimed the lead at the start of the second nine, leaving himself with two putts on the 18th green to win the US Masters for a second time.
While the prize of $4,500,000 for the winner is substantial, it's perhaps the last thing McIlroy thought about as he further cements his place in the game's history.
