Peterborough United are closing in on the appointment of Robbie Savage as their new manager.
Forest Green chairman Dale Vince revealed that Savage had been "offered the job" at the Weston Homes Stadium after the National League club granted the former Wales international permission to talk to the League One outfit.
Peterborough have been on the hunt for a new manager since sacking Luke Williams on 19th September after a five-game winless run left the club second from bottom in the third tier.
It's a big step in Savage's managerial career after spells with Macclesfield and Forest Green.
Involved with the creation of Macclesfield's phoenix club, Savage took on the role of head coach in June 2024 and steered the Cheshire outfit to promotion from the Northern Premier League in his first season.
His success with Macclesfield then led to an opportunity with Forest Green and despite harbouring promotion ambitions at the start of the campaign, a run of five defeats in seven matches from January into February saw their charge falter.
Forest Green ultimately finished seventh on 81 points, 11 points clear of Halifax Town in eighth, but their promotion hopes were extinguished in the first play-off tie at Boreham Wood as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.
The current campaign hasn't been an improvement for Savage at The New Lawn with Rovers languishing in 13th with just four wins from their opening 11 matches.
If appointed, Savage's first league assignment will be against one of his former employers in Leicester City as the Posh travel to the King Power Stadium on 10th October.
Peterborough's summer recruitment was once again heavily youth-focused with only two players - Liam Kelly from MK Dons and Thomas O'Connor from Wrexham - over the age of 25, and the current squad of players are going to be a test of Savage's player development.
His predecessor was one of the Football League's finest at honing the skills of youthful individuals and if Williams was struggling to get a tune out of a group littered with raw talent, then it will be fascinating to see how Savage fares in Cambridgeshire.
Survival is paramount for the former Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers midfielder, and anything on top of that is a bonus.
