Adam Catterall's Paddy Pimblett vs Benoit Saint Denis Tips

  • Benoit Saint Denis by Decision or Technical Decision - 17/4

Just six months ago Paddy Pimblett suffered the first defeat of his UFC career at the hands of Justin Gaethje.

The two men had thrown everything they had at each other over the course of four rounds in the UFC 324 main event, but it was ultimately Gaethje who got the nod on the judges' scorecards - and the interim lightweight title.

Now, Pimblett is tasked with reasserting himself on an ever-changing lightweight division that appears wide open after Gaethje upset the odds to defeat Ilia Topuria and become undisputed last month.

In Benoit Saint Denis however, the outspoken Liverpudlian takes on one of the most dangerous fighters in the world at 155lbs, with a mix of aggressive striking and elite-level grappling skills.

Saint Denis has won his last four fights inside the Octagon as he climbs up the rankings, and MMA expert Adam Catterall says the Frenchman has what it takes to make it five at the expense of Pimblett this evening.

"Benoit Saint Denis is an animal," Catterall said on bet365 Cageside. "and he will come out at Paddy Pimblett like an absolute freight train looking for that finish."

"The problem is, nobody finishes Paddy Pimblett.

"If Paddy can ride the storm - and there's going to be a storm - in the first five minutes, he's in this. Like Saint Denis he is an elite grappler and I would fancy Paddy in any grappling exchange.

"He's big, he does hit hard and I think that if it is just a pure striking match that Paddy can have an effect down the back end of the fight.

"The problem is: how far ahead will Benoit Saint Denis be when Paddy starts to have success?

"My gut is telling me that Benoit Saint Denis will come through on a points decision, but he'll be hanging on for grim death because Paddy will come strong at the end of the fight."
