Ollie Pope has been recalled to the England Test squad for the upcoming series against Pakistan.
The Surrey batter's inclusion comes following the news that Jacob Bethell will miss out after failing to recover from a knee injury that kept him from captaining Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.
Despite Pope's inclusion, it will be Jordan Cox who gets the opportunity to bat at three after enjoying a fantastic season so far.
The visit of Pakistan will see Joe Root take back the captaincy reins after Ben Stokes announced his shock retirement from the international game mid-way through England's series with New Zealand earlier in the summer.
Stephen Fleming was also appointed head coach, replacing Brendon McCullum, but the Kiwi will not take charge until the winter when England tour South Africa.
There is also space for Dan Lawrence among the 16-strong squad.
The Essex all-rounder last featured in the Test side two years ago but he has been rewarded for a strong County Championship campaign where he has scored 788 runs at 65 and taken nine wickets.
It is expected that Lawrence will compete for Stokes' vacated spot at number six, the selectors choosing to overlook leg-spinning all-rounder Rehan Ahmed.
Shoaib Bashir remains as England's number one spinner, supported by the part-time options in Lawrence and Root.
England's national selector Marcus North said: "We have selected a squad for the first two Tests that balances rising talent with the experience needed against a quality Pakistan team.
"Dan Lawrence returns following an exceptional season so far with Surrey and we believe he has the right level of experience, maturity and skill to complement our middle order.
"Jordan Cox is well regarded as one of the most exciting talents in English cricket and will have the opportunity to bat at [No.] 3 in place of Jacob Bethell, who sadly misses this series through injury."

England and Pakistan first meet at Headingley on 19th August before Lord's plays host to the second match that begins on 27th August.
Edgbaston will stage the third and final Test match on 9th September, ending little under a week before England kick-off a six-match white-ball campaign against Sri Lanka.
