Joe Root is set to be re-appointed as England Test captain ahead of the upcoming Test series against Pakistan.
England's Test side are going through a transitional period at present; Ben Stokes' relinquished the captaincy after announcing his retirement from the international game, before head coach Brendon McCullum was relieved of his red-ball duties.
Now, according to reports in The Athletic, Root is set for a second stint as skipper after resigning from the role in 2022.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are planning to place the 35-year-old in charge for at least this summer's series with Pakistan, with a view to a potential extended stay up until next year's all-important Ashes series against Australia.

It's no secret that England were seriously underperforming towards the back end of Root's tenure as skipper.
He led his team to just one win from his final 17 matches as captain, his time coming to an end following series defeats to India, New Zealand and Australia.
Upon leaving, Root said: "It has been the most challenging decision I have had to make in my career but having discussed this with my family and those closest to me; I know the timing is right."
The Yorkshireman took charge of England on 60 occasions in the five years that he was in post, breaking the previous record held by Sir Alistair Cook on 59.
Root's appointed had initially yielded success and he concluded his spell in charge with a perfect split between wins and losses at 27 a piece, drawing the 11 other matches he captained.
