Norwich City and West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing left-back Matt Targett on a free transfer.
Targett spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Middlesbrough from Newcastle United and he made 46 appearances in all competitions for the Teesiders.
He was part of the team that secured a place in the Championship play-offs, where they suffered an agonising 1-0 defeat to Hull City in the final at Wembley.
Still just 30, Targett is a free agent this summer after being released by Newcastle at the end of the season.
Football League World have reported that Norwich and West Ham are amongst the clubs who are interested in signing the player.
After making 89 appearances across three seasons at Aston Villa, Targett struggled for first-team football after moving to St James' Park.
He remained a fringe player during his three-and-a-half years at the club and it was only last season where he was able to secure regular first-team football at Middlesbrough.
He is at an age where he could still be a valuable asset for a team who are looking to challenge at the top end of the Championship, as proven last season.
West Ham have been installed as the Championship promotion favourites and they are in the market for a left-back regardless of the uncertainty surrounding current first-choice El Hadji Malick Diouf.
Meanwhile, Norwich ended last season in fine form and they will be looking to challenge for the play-offs in the new season.
