Next Swindon Town Manager Contenders: Under-fire Ian Holloway labels himself "a dead man walking"

We take a look at the contenders to be the next manager of Swindon Town following Ian Holloway's remarkable rant in which he described himself as "a dead man walking".

The 63-year-old has endured a difficult month following a previously enthusing start to the new campaign, with his side having now gone five matches in all competitions without tasting victory.

The Robins, who have lost 13 players to injury already, had lost four games in succession prior to their 1-1 draw with Accrington Stanley in League Two last weekend.

However, despite addressing their alarming run with a first point in three weeks, Holloway acknowledged the pressure building upon him and admitted that action would be taken should Swindon's fortunes not improve.

"Dead. Man. Walking. That's how it feels, but deep down I know a lot more than that, don't I?" Holloway told BBC Radio Wiltshire.

"I know what I've done, I know where I am, I know the problems I've got here, I've tried to explain them openly and honestly to everybody."

As speculation continues to mount surrounding the ex-Queens Park Rangers boss's future, we take a look at a handful of names who could come in contention should Holloway's two-year tenure be cut short.

Next Swindon Town Manager Contenders

Stuart Maynard

Stuart Maynard's name has already been speculated within the Swindon faithful as a likely leading contender for the potentially vacant managerial role at the County Ground.

The 45-year-old oversaw York City's National League title-winning campaign in 2025/26, recording a remarkable 108 points, only to be shockingly sacked ahead of their League Two return.

The former Wealdstone and Notts County boss's stock remains exceptionally high however, and surely it is only a matter of time until he is afforded another crack at EFL management.

Luke Williams

How times have changed for former Swindon Town manager Luke Williams.

Just 18 months ago the Londoner was regarded as one of the brightest coaches outside the Premier League when he was shining at Swansea City on the back of his impressive work at the County Ground and Notts County.

However, after being relinquished of his role in South Wales, Williams has since been dismissed from his latest post in Peterborough United, leaving the 45-year-old at a career crossroads.

The prospect of a return to Swindon -- where his managerial career began -- could prove to be the tonic needed, both for himself and a club that remains close to his heart.

Michael Duff

Another manager who currently finds himself out of work, and could be tempted by taking over the future reins of Swindon Town, is Michael Duff.

The 49-year-old was relieved of his duties at League One side Wycombe Wanderers earlier this month after 12 months in the Adams Park hotseat.

Duff, who enjoyed a stellar EFL playing career, won promotion from League Two with Cheltenham Town in 2021, but has struggled to replicate that success in subsequent spells in charge of Barnsley, Swansea City, Huddersfield Town and now Wycombe.
