It was announced on Monday that Marc Skinner would be leaving his position as Manchester United Women’s manager, just a month before the new season starts.
The former Birmingham City head coach has left United by mutual consent, having led them to their first piece of major silverware, the 2024 Women’s FA Cup.
After a quiet summer in the transfer market, it’s claimed that Skinner had raised concerns about the investment in the United squad.
The 43-year-old and club officials are understood to have held talks over the last few weeks and it has led to Skinner leaving the WSL outfit.
Reports claim that United have already put the wheels in motion to find a replacement ahead of their season-opener, which is away to London City Lionesses on 4th September.
Eva Olid
At the age of just 40, Olid is a name that has caught the eye of late, after impressing in her first ever managerial role.
The Spaniard took charge of Hearts Women back in 2021 and led the Edinburgh club to their first Scottish Premier League title last term.
The former La Planada player, who also took Hearts to the Women’s Scottish Cup final in 2024, is currently without a club.
She announced back in April this year that she would be leaving Hearts at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
Casey Stoney
There has been early speculation that United may look to bring back a former coach, in the shape of Casey Stoney.
The former England international had a three-year stint as United Women’s first ever manager, between 2018 and 2021.
Since then, Stoney has been working in North America, managing NWSL team San Diego Wave for three years, before becoming Canada national team coach in 2025.
Montse Tome
Another person being mentioned as a possible candidate to become Manchester United Women’s first overseas manager is Montse Tome.
The former Barcelona player was in charge of the Spanish national team for two years, during which time she led them to Nations League success.
Spain then reached the 2025 European Championship final under Tome’s guidance, where they lost to England on penalties.
The 44-year-old left the national team post and there were rumours that she would be appointed Juventus Women’s head coach. That didn’t happen and she is still looking for a new challenge.
Rehanne Skinner
It’s possible United might go from one Skinner to another, if they decide they want someone with considerable experience.
Rehanne Skinner has been a coach for 20 years, starting her career at Leicester in 2006 and having spells in charge at the likes of Tottenham and West Ham.
She was sacked by the Hammers in December 2025 and is another currently looking for a new coaching position.
