Next Bristol City Manager: Five contenders to replace Michael Skubala

We take a look at the contenders to be the next manager of Bristol City as the pressure increases on Michael Skubala.

The Robins are currently 17th in the Championship table after winning just one of their last seven matches.

Skubala arrived at Ashton Gate in the summer after leading Lincoln City to the League One title.

However, he has received criticism from supporters after a dip in form in recent weeks and the heavy defeat to Norwich City on Saturday.

Here are our top five contenders to be the next Bristol City manager in the event that the club's hierarchy makes a change.

Next Bristol City Manager Contenders

Steve Cooper

Steve Cooper has been linked with various Championship positions in the last few weeks.

His best moment was guiding Nottingham Forest into the Premier League during his time at the City Ground.

However, his last two roles at Leicester City and Brondby did not go to plan and his next role needs to be the right one.

Paul Heckingbottom

Paul Heckingbottom was relieved of his duties at Championship strugglers Preston North End in September.

The Lilywhites had suffered six defeats in their first seven matches, but Heckingbottom has since been linked with the likes of Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday.

He has a Championship promotion on his CV and he would provide a wealth of experience.

Rob Edwards

It is surely only a matter of time before Rob Edwards returns to the dugout.

He was sacked on the eve of the new season despite playing a key part in some of Wolves' summer transfer activity.

Many people questioned his decision to leave Middlesbrough last season and he will be desperate to make a success of his next role.

Roy Hodgson

At 79 years of age, it would be quite the story if Bristol City once again turned to Roy Hodgson.

He led the club for the final seven games of last season and was able to steer the club to a top-half finish.

The experience and knowledge that he possesses would no doubt be invaluable, but Hodgson may feel that his management days are over.

Gary Rowett

Gary Rowett remains out of work after leaving Leicester City at the end of last season.

The 52-year-old has managed over 600 matches in the football league, with a significant number of those games coming in the Championship.

Rowett has walked into difficult situations in his last couple of roles and he could relish the challenge at Ashton Gate.
