Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Will Lankshear.
The 21-year-old striker arrived at the Riverside Stadium for an initial fee of £10 million in the summer as Tottenham Hotspur opted to cash in on the young striker.
Lankshear had netted 11 goals in 43 appearances for Oxford United last season but he has already developed significantly on Teesside.
A tally of 13 goals in 13 matches has seen him linked with a call up to the senior England squad, although an untimely injury saw Thomas Tuchel leave Lankshear out for the upcoming internationals.
The Sun have reported that Newcastle have been impressed with Lankshear's early season form and they are monitoring the striker ahead of the January transfer window.
It's perhaps no conincidence that Lankshear's absence in midweek saw Middlesbrough's 11-match unbeaten run come to an end at Wrexham.
Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg will be targeting promotion this season and he will see Lankshear as key to his plans.
However, the lure of the Premier League and a sizeable offer could turn Lankshear's head if he continues at his current trajectory.
Newcastle have spent in excess of £170 million on forwards over the last 18 months, but the likes of Yoane Wissa, Matias Fernandez-Pardo and Nick Woltemade have not had the desired impact.
Harvey Barnes, Anthony Elanga and Joe Willock are the top goalscorers for the Magpies with just two goals in the Premier League.
Head coach Matthias Jaissle will want to introduce more goals to his team and Lankshear could be the man to fill the void if he continues to take the Championship by storm.
