Despite making it to three finals, the Netherlands have never won the World Cup.
Although they have boasted some of the greatest players of all time, they have fallen to defeat at the last hurdle in 1974, 1978 and 2010, holding the record for the most finals played without victory.
Led by Ronald Koeman in his second stint in charge, the Oranje are eighth in the betting this time around, though have a strong starting XI with some good squad depth too.
A side likely to rely on a staunch defence, Koeman's side had the joint-fourth best in European qualifying. Though it may come as a surprise to people that their goals scored per game was also the fourth highest. They come into the tournament in form.
They find themselves in a potentially tricky Group F, alongside Japan, Sweden and Tunisia.
Odds on favourites to finish top of the pile at 8/11, and even shorter to simply qualify at 1/14, the expectation is that the Netherlands should end up going quite deep into the tournament once again.
Should they top the group, the likelihood is that they will face Morocco, who are expected to finish second to Brazil in Group C, though they could quite easily face the Selecao if Morocco cause an upset.
The way the draw has fallen for the host nations mean that Canada could await in the last 16, which the Netherlands will see as a very winnable game before potential consecutive clashes with France, Spain and England in the quarters, semis and final respectively.
