The Hungarian Grand Prix returned to the MotoGP programme in 2025 after a gap stretching back to 1992, so all of the riders are still getting to know the Balaton Park Circuit.
However, one man has dominated at this venue and will be the rider to beat again on Sunday.
Reigning MotoGP world champion Marc Marquez took the chequered flag 12 months ago for Ducati, with fellow Spaniard Pedro Acosta claiming second for KTM and the podium being filled out by current standings leader Marco Bezzecchi on his Aprilia.
And that proved reliable form for qualifying this time around, as Marquez stormed to pole position in just his second race back after shoulder surgery, edging a battle with Acosta, while Fermin Aldeguer secured third place for Ducati to complete the front row.
Marquez then took the honours in Saturday's Sprint Race, just as he did 12 months ago, when he also secured pole position and then triumphed in the Grand Prix - to seal a treble which he is one step away from repeating.
Best Bet - Marc Marquez to win @ 4/7
Alternative Bet - Pedro Acosta to win and each-way @ 4/1
Alternative Bet - Fermin Aldeguer to win and each-way @ 14/1
Best Bet: Marc Marquez to win @ 4/7
Well, where else can you start other than by backing seven-time 500cc world champion Marc Marquez to cross the line first in Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix.
The twists and turns of the Balaton Park Circuit clearly suit the immense talent and riding style of Marquez, who as recently as May 10th underwent surgery in Madrid to not only fix a fractured foot, but also deal with an issue in his left shoulder which had been bothering him for some time.
As a result of that procedure following a first-lap crash at Jerez, Marquez was forced to miss the French and Catalan Grands Prix, but was back on his Ducati for the Italian Grand Prix on the final day of May.
He managed to finish seventh at Mugello and has clearly moved forward in performance since then and a return to the track in Hungary where he still has an unblemished record clearly suits.
Marquez has to be the clear favourite to wrap up his first victory of the season, a result he needs to ignite a potential bid for a record-equalling eighth world title in motorcycling's premier class.
Alternative Bet: Pedro Acosta to win and each-way @ 4/1
If the best bet is an obvious one, then the first alternative choice is a little more inventive, but is again a selection that cannot be avoided.
Pedro Acosta finished second in the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix and has backed that up by being right behind fellow Spaniard Marquez in both the Sprint Race and qualifying this time around.
Acosta is a massively consistent performer, with the one remaining doubt that he has yet to win a race in MotoGP, having claimed the titles in both Moto3 and Moto2 before moving up for the start of the 2024 season.
Six podium finishes across eight races at the end of last season and the beginning of this one show what Acosta is capable of on his KTM and a first GP victory is surely not too far away, even if beating Marquez in Hungary seems to be an almost impossible task.
Alternative Bet: Fermin Aldeguer to win and each-way @ 14/1
The easy way to go with the second alternative bet would be to pick out standings leader Bezzecchi, who finished third in last year's GP and also third in the Sprint Race on Saturday, but for a little more value complete a Spanish treble by opting for Fermin Aldeguer.
The Ducati ace will start on the front row on Sunday alongside Marquez and Acosta and will hope to do better than the fifth in the Sprint Race he managed from the same position on Saturday.
Aldeguer, in only his second season in the top class of MotoGP, is an up and down performer and second place in Catalunya is his sole podium finish so far this season.
However, unlike Acosta, he does have a MotoGP victory to his name, having taken the chequered flag in Indonesia at the Mandalika International Street Circuit in October of last year.
With Aldeguer at 14/1 and Bezzecchi as narrow as 4/1, there is more value to be had in siding with the former and raising the prospect of an all-Spanish podium at the end of the race.
