Middlesbrough are exploring a move to sign Leeds United striker Joel Piroe this summer.
Piroe has been pushed down the pecking order at Elland Road in recent times following the signings of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha.
The Suriname striker joined Leeds for a reported fee of £10 million in August 2023 and he scored 13 goals in 42 appearances during his first season.
The following season saw Piroe finish as the top goalscorer in the Championship as Leeds secured their return to the Premier League.
However, he struggled for regular game time in the top-flight last season and he failed to score a league goal in 16 appearances, although most of those outings were from the substitutes bench.
The 26-year-old is deemed surplus to requirements in Yorkshire as the club looks to build on their first season back at the top table of English football.
It is believed that Leeds are looking to recoup as much of the £10 million fee as possible, which could potentially price a number of Championship clubs out of the deal.
Scottish Premiership side Rangers held an initial interest in the striker but their interest has since cooled following the capture of Lawrence Shankland from Hearts.
One club who are reportedly keen to secure Piroe's signature are Championship side Middlesbrough, who have been linked with the forward before.
Middlesbrough could receive a significant fee for midfielder Hayden Hackney this summer, while there is already in the money in the kitty to strengthen the squad.
Kim Hellberg's side suffered defeat in the Championship play-off final to Hull City last season and they will be looking to go one better next season.
