England fast bowler Mark Wood has announced his retirement from international cricket.
The 36-year-old finishes his England career having played 146 times for his country across all three formats.
Featuring 38 times at Test level, Wood took 119 wickets at an average of 30.79, picking up a handful of five-wicket hauls across a career that lasted over more than a decade.
Among the fastest bowlers that England have ever produced, Wood was part of the 2015 Ashes-winning squad.
Wood has not represented England since the opening Test of the 2025/26 Ashes tour where Australia inflicted an eight-wicket defeat on the visitors. It was in that Test where Wood suffered a reoccurrence of an old knee injury that had kept him out of the previous eight months of the season.
Injury issues have plagued Wood throughout his time as an international cricketer, suffering nine separate problems in the 10 years following his England debut.
Despite this, the Northumberland-born bowler still managed to cause major problems for international batters, regularly reaching speeds in excess of 90mph when fit.
Playing a major part in England's maiden ODI World Cup win in 2019 and the T20 World Cup win in 2022, Wood picked up 80 wickets in the 50-over game and a further 54 in T20Is at an outstanding 20.24.
Wood still intends to continue his career for Durham in the T20 Blast and also in franchise cricket across the globe after his central contract with England expires next month.
