With Bournemouth set to keep hold of Marcos Senesi beyond the winter transfer window, attentions will quickly turn to where the defender will be plying his trade next season.
Having sold Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi and Dean Huijsen for mega sums last summer, Senesi has expertly stepped into the void, recapturing the place he lost to Huijsen when suffering a hamstring injury last season.
The Argentine was keeping Huijsen out of the Bournemouth side following Huijsen's arrival from Juventus, but failed to get back after recovering from his lay-off.
But Senesi has cemented his place in the side this term and his stellar performances have him looking ready to make the step up to a top European club.
With Senesi's contract expiring in the summer, and with no sign of him penning a new deal, we look at where the centre-back could move in the summer.
Liverpool's transfer plans were dealt a huge blow last summer when Marc Guehi's move fell through. While there remained hope they could sign the Palace centre-back on a free the following summer, the Reds were gazumped by Manchester City in January, putting them back to square one.
Ibrahima Konate's form has dipped this season, though appears closer to signing a contract extension, while there have to be questions about Virgil van Dijk's long-term future at the club with the Dutchman also taking a backward step this term and turning 35 before the start of next season.
Even with the incoming Jeremy Jacquet, Liverpool are threadbare at the back and another centre-back will be a top-priority at the end of the season; a left-footed ball-player like Senesi would fit the bill perfectly.
Barcelona aren't overly short of defensive options, with Pau Cubarsi, Ronaldo Araujo, Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen, with Jules Kounde available to provide emergency cover, but Hansi Flick has had to use four different defensive partnerships in the first few months of the season.
While Cubarsi may well play for the club for the next 10 to 15 years, it's likely an area of the pitch Barca will be looking to strengthen over the summer, and Senesi's ball-playing capabilities could make him a perfect fit at Camp Nou.
Vincent Kompany has largely been able to name first-choice centre-backs Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah next to each other this season, with Kim Min-jae starting nine games as a back-up.
Questions that were lingering over Upamecano's future have been answered with the Frenchman's contract running down, but a new long-term deal keeps him at the club until 2030.
Nevertheless, should a left-footed defender of Senesi's quality come onto the market on a free transfer, it may be hard for Bayern to ignore.
David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger's contracts expire at the end of the season, Eder Militao's long-term fitness is constantly under question and Raul Asencio and Huijsen are a combined 42 years old. As such, Real Madrid will likely be looking for another centre-back to add to their ranks in the summer.
While Senesi isn't experienced in the sense of most Real Madrid players with no UEFA Champions League games to his name, he did reach the UEFA Conference League final with Feyenoord in 2022 and will be 29 in the summer, potentially serving as a useful older head at the Bernabeu.
Could Senesi reunite with former Bournemouth team mate Huijsen?
