Marco Silva has reportedly reached an agreement to become the next Benfica head coach.
Silva is said to have travelled to London in recent days to communicate his decision to the Fulham hierarchy as he prepares to depart Craven Cottage following a five-year stint at the club.
The Cottagers finished a respectable 11th in the Premier League last season, and Silva was offered a new three-year deal by Fulham in a bid to extend his reign in West London.
However, from the moment Jose Mourinho departed Benfica speculation has linked the 48-year-old with a move back to his native Portugal and it appears that the deal has finally been completed.
According to Portuguese outlet A BOLA, Silva has agreed a three-year contract at the Estadio da Luz as he prepares to return to the Liga Portugal for the first time in more than a decade.
The most decorated club in the history of Portuguese football, Benfica have only league once in the last seven years, with their most recent triumph coming under the stewardship of Roger Schmidt in 2022-23.
Last season they managed to go the entire season unbeaten in the league, but still ultimately finished third in the Primera Liga - eight points behind winners Porto.
While that position does guarantee As Aguias a European berth, they will enter the UEFA Europa League at the second qualifying round stage, with the draw set to be held later this month.
For Fulham the hunt for a new head coach will surely already be underway, with former Brentford boss Thomas Frank touted as a potential candidate.
