Manchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Athletic's David Ornstein reported on Wednesday morning: "United have made an offer of around £60million (€70m, $81m) plus £5m in add-ons which is felt to be below what Brighton would be seeking to sell.
"Amicable talks continue with all parties working towards finding an agreement for the 22-year-old Cameroon international to move to Old Trafford."
United have signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans already with the club keen to reinforce their midfield over the summer. The club went into last season with Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte as their dedicated midfield options, with Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount also utilised in deeper roles.
But with a European campaign that will see United likely play a dozen more games than last term, Michael Carrick has needed not only more numbers but a variety of profiles.
Although Mainoo is an excellent ball carrier, the more destructive Casemiro and Ugarte have needed replacing owing to the former's departure and the latter's long-term injury, while United sorely needed a passer in the middle of the park, an option Tielemans will provide.
Baleba signed for Brighton in 2023 for around £23m, and while his debut season saw him get to grips with the Premier League, his second season saw him break out, winning the club's Young Player of the Year award.
The Cameroon international's performances saw United make their move last season, but with the Seagulls demanding a fee in excess of £100m, an agreement was never reached.
Baleba's form dipped last term, however, and with the midfielder still keen on the move, United will hope to secure a cut-price deal.
