As Tottenham Hotspur continue to overhaul their squad following back-to-back 17th place finishes, Lucas Bergvall could be one of many to depart the club.
Spurs, who only narrowly avoided Premier League relegation last season, have already made significant inroads this transfer window, with Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke already announced as new signings.
Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes, Savinho - among many others - have also been heavily linked with moves to Tottenham, as they look to rebuild their squad.
With the sheer number of incomings, it was always likely that some players would need to depart Spurs, and the Athletic have reported that Sweden international Lucas Bergvall has expressed a desire to leave the club this summer.
The report from David Ornstein via the Athletic, states that Bergvall "has informed Tottenham Hotspur of his preference to seek a new challenge elsewhere" with "strong interest from sides in England and across Europe" in his signature.
With that in mind, we assess where Bergvall could go next if Tottenham Hotspur decide to sanction his departure.
Another Athletic reporter, Jacob Tanswell, has this morning reported that Nottingham Forest are interested in a move for Lucas Bergvall, as Elliot Anderson edges closer to joining Manchester City.
With Anderson's move to the Citizens set to net Forest a fee of around £120m, the Tricky Trees will have a significant war chest at their disposal as they search for his replacement.
Bergvall, who is reportedly set to cost around £40m this summer, could fill in the sizeable gap left by the Englishman and, at 20 years old, has the potential to be another huge sale in years to come.
Another club mentioned in the article is Aston Villa, who were credited with an interest in a move for Bergvall back in February.
The report mentions that while the Villans are not currently actively looking for a midfielder, they retain an interest in the Swede and a sale of one of their current players could see them to enter the market.
It remains to be seen whether or not Unai Emery's side will be on the lookout for a midfielder this window, but if they do, Bergvall will surely be at the very top of the list.
Another side linked with a move for the Tottenham man back in February, Chelsea signing Bergvall would make sense for a number of reasons.
At 20 years-old, Bergvall fits the current Chelsea model of hoovering up the top youngsters around and the world and, with Enzo Fernandez potentially departing this summer, a place in the team for a creative midfielder could open up.
Furthermore, a move to Tottenham's rivals would allow the Sweden international to remain in London, a factor which typically does play a big role in players' thinking.
Finances would be no problem for the Blues, especially if Fernandez is to depart, making them one of the front runners for Bergvall's signature.
Having been beaten by Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of Bergvall back in 2024, FC Barcelona could rekindle their interest in bringing him to the Nou Camp.
A midfielder is clearly high up on Barcelona's wish list this summer, with the Catalan giants losing out to bitter rivals Real Madrid for the free transfer of Bernardo Silva already this summer.
Alongside this, finances appear to no longer be heavily restricted for Barca this window, with Anthony Gordon already joining the club for around €80m from Newcastle.
With all this in mind - and the fact that Spurs could avoid selling to a direct rival - Barcelona could steal a march on the Premier League sides in the race for Lucas Bergvall.
