Liverpool v Atletico Madrid tips from the Football Betting Club

Liverpool welcome Atletico Madrid to Anfield for a UEFA Champions League clash that rarely fails to deliver.

The Reds narrowly prevailed in a thriller when the sides last met in the League Phase little under 12 months ago. Virgil van Dijk's last gasp header got Liverpool's European campaign off to the perfect start with a 3-2 win in front of their own supporters.

Iraola's men are unbeaten so far this season and they will be the happier of the two sides heading into Wednesday night given Atleti arrive here off the back of a thumping 3-0 loss to Athletic Club.

Historically this fixture has produced goals, goals and more goals - something European football expert Ian Broadrick can only see continuing...

Liverpool v Atletico Madrid Prediction

Best Bet: Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score @ 10/11

"I think this is one of those games where, if you're going to watch any match, this is one that you definitely want to be looking at," Broadrick said.

"Atletico have made some good moves in the transfer market; Christian Romero is the most Atletico Madrid centre back in world football and it's a miracle that Simeone hasn't got him there sooner. I think they did some good business getting Jonathan David in there from Juventus, I like that as a signing.

"Atletico have started the season relatively well. They had a terrible result at the weekend against Bilbao when they lost 3-0, but that really wasn't a reflection of the game, you know. If you look at the chances, Atletico actually played okay, albeit they probably didn't deserve to get anything from it, but they were definitely better than a 3-0 loss.

"This is not a game where it is very easy to pick a winner because Liverpool have shown that they are very good going forward, too. I think they've done well to keep hold of [Cody] Gakpo, I think he's going to be an important piece for them, and they've done their own good business.

"[Bradley] Barcola, whether or not he'll be ready to start this match or not, is a player that is going to give them the x-factor that they've been missing since Luis Diaz went to Bayern.

"Liverpool have conceded twice already in two games this season. Okay, they kept a clean sheet against Ipswich, but they conceded two against Forest and two against Newcastle. I think this is a game that we're going to see goals in, I think it could go either way, which is why I've gone for Over 2.5 Goals & Both Teams to Score."

Key Match Stats

  • Liverpool have won each of the last three meetings between the two sides

  • Alexander Isak has scored three goals in his last two matches

  • Atleti conceded 15 goals in the League Phase last season - the third-most of any side to finish in the top 24
