Lionel Messi has become the first player to miss two penalties at a World Cup outside of penalty shootouts.
Messi missed a penalty in the 2026 World Cup group stage fixture against Austria, but the Argentina captain still ended up scoring both goals in a routine 2-0 win.
The legendary attacker also failed to convert from the spot in the first-half of Argentina's Last 16 match against Egypt to pick up the unwanted record.
However, he once again ended up on the scoresheet as Argentina came from two goals down to win 3-2 and book their place in the quarter-finals.
The penalty against Egypt was the 150th that Messi has taken during his career and there have been a number of notable misses.
Out of those 150 penalties, Messi has scored a total of 116 and missed 34 over the years.
Despite his status as arguably the greatest footballer of all-time, his percentage success rate of 77.3% is still rather modest.
He has also taken a total of eight penalties in World Cup matches excluding shootouts and has only converted four of them.
