Lincoln City have reportedly won the race to sign England youth international Ethan Wheatley from Manchester United.
The Imps are in the midst of a busy summer in the transfer market after securing promotion to second tier for the first time in more than 60 years.
League One title-winning manager Michael Skubala departed the club after their historic success to take over at Bristol City, and the club responded by appointing Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw as joint head coaches.
Wheatley had been repeatedly linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with Lincoln reportedly facing competition from the likes of Everton to secure his signature.
The Toffees had been linked with the 20-year-old earlier in the summer with a view to bringing him into their development squad.
Ultimately though the Championship side have won out, with journalist Pete O'Rouke writing on social media that Wheatley has agreed a move to Sincil Bank.
The desire to play first-team football is understood to have played a significant role in Wheatley's decision making as he looks to establish himself in senior football.
Born in Stockport, the centre forward joined the Manchester United academy at the age of nine and was awarded the Young Player of the Year award in 2023-24, joining the likes of Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho on the list of winners.
After getting his first taste of Premier League football under then-United boss Erik ten Hag in 2023-24, Wheatley was sent on loan to League Two Walsall the following year but made just four appearances.
Last season he spent time at both Northampton Town and Bradford City in League One, making a total of 36 appearances in all competitions and scoring three goals.
Lincoln currently sit 20th in the Championship table after their opening two games of the campaign, with a 2-1 loss away at Middlesbrough followed by a 3-1 defeat by Portsmouth.
