Aston Villa's Leon Goretzka is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a knee injury.
The German's illustrious eight-year spell with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich came to an end following the expiry of his contract in June 2026.
Aston Villa fought off competition from various suitors to secure the signature of the 31-year-old, with the midfielder joining the club to add depth in the engine room following the departure of Youri Tielemans.
Goretzka is yet to make his debut for the club -- with manager Unai Emery deeming that he was not match fit to feature in the side's Premier League openers -- and his wait to make his first Villans appearance will be extended after taking to social media to confirm a setback in his return to full fitness.

When is Leon Goretzka expected to return from injury?
Goretzka has been ruled out of action until after the three-week international break with a knee injury.
He took to Instagram to break the news, stating: "Unfortunately, my body has reacted to the increased workload after my time away from the pitch. It's frustrating, but I need this short break now to come back at full strength.
"I'll use the coming days, including the international break, to recover fully and I'll be back ready to fight and give everything for the Villa."
The German could make his Villa debut on Saturday 10th October when they welcome Brentford to the West Midlands in their first Premier League game back after the international break.
If the midfielder fails in his bid to return straight after the international break, he could make his first appearance for the club against Fenerbahce in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday 14th October.
