Leicester City weigh up return for ex-Premier League goalkeeper after Jakub Stolarczyk's injury

Leicester City are reportedly considering re-signing Ben Hamer after Jakub Stolarczyk's knee injury.

After Alex McCarthy started the Foxes first two games back in League One Stolarczyk was given the nod against MK Dons last Friday.

In their subsequent fixture against Plymouth Argyle the Polish goalkeeper was taken off on a stretcher just minutes after the opening whistle following a collision with Ronan Curtis.

Speaking after the game Russell Martin admitted that he fears the worst for Stolarczyk, with some reports suggesting that he could face an extended spell on the sidelines.

While the transfer window has now closed, Leicester could look to the free agent market to provide cover between the sticks and it appears they may reunite with a familiar face at the King Power Stadium.

According to Danny Rose, the Foxes have earmarked Hamer as a potential option should they opt to sign another goalkeeper.

The 38-year-old has a wealth of experience across the Football League and spent last season in the Championship with Queens Park Rangers.

Hamer first joined Leicester in summer of 2014 following the club's promotion to the Premier League.

In his maiden campaign in the East Midlands Hamer made eight top-flight appearances after stepping in following an injury to Kasper Schmeichel.

The signing of Mark Schwarzer the following summer would see him drop to third choice during Leicester's iconic title-winning campaign but he went on to make his UEFA Champions League defeat in 2016.

In addition to his time at Leicester Hamer has also enjoyed spells at Charlton, Huddersfield, Swansea and Watford among others.
