Norwich City are making preparations to sign a new left winger as it was confirmed Ali Ahmed faces a prolonged spell on the sidelines after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The Canada international suffered the major injury setback during Norwich's penultimate pre-season friendly against CA Osasuna as he landed awkwardly when attempting to control a pass.
Subsequent medical scans revealed the 25-year-old had ruptured the ACL in his right knee and Norwich confirmed Ahmed will now underdo surgery.
Ahmed's absence is a major blow to Phillippe Clement's plans as he looks to orchestrate the Canaries' return to the Premier League, and Norwich sporting director Ben Knapper suggested the club could explore options in the transfer market to fill the void on the left flank.

Benjamin Domínguez
Norwich have been credited with an interest in Bologna winger Benjamin Domínguez according to local media in Norfolk and the Argentine is likely to be available for transfer.
Turkish Super Lig outfit Trabzonspor were reportedly tracking Dominguez before breaking the bank to sign Mohamed Salah, and the 22-year-old may be looking for a way out of Emilia-Romagna in search of regular first-team football.
Dominguez's underlying numbers aren't exactly exhilarating, but he did still conjure three assists in 20 Serie A appearances under Vincenzo Italiano last term and he has been linked with the likes of Lyon and Roma in the last 12 months.
