Sunderland made the dream start in Poland, with 21-year-old forward Timur Tutyerov putting the visitors in front inside just two minutes.
The Ukrainian -- who made his first Premier League appearance of the campaign in a 2-0 defeat against Bournemouth at the weekend -- was in the perfect position to expertly head home Nilson Angulo's cross.
Black Cats stopper Robin Roefs was tested on numerous occasions -- and up to a certain point it felt like it was going to be Sunderland's night -- but Lech Poznan levelled the scoring in the 70th minute.
Sunderland were unable to clear their lines from a Lech Poznan corner, and midfielder Leo Bengtsson was on hand to rifle home a powerful right-footed effort.
The sides accumulated 5.23 xG (expected goals) and a remarkable 41 shots between them, but they could not be separated at the Poznan Stadium.
While Sunderland were unable to maintain their perfect record, they remain unbeaten in their debut Europa League campaign and are well placed to secure a top 24 spot, at the very least.
