Arsenal are anxiously awaiting the results of an MRI scan after star striker Kai Havertz suffered an injury whilst featuring for Germany in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday evening.
While the Gunners spent heavily during the summer transfer window, they opted against bringing in fresh goalscoring power despite the claims of many supporters that another option up top was needed.
That decision may now come back to haunt them after Havertz was forced out of his country's 1-1 draw with the Netherlands last night after being on the receiving end of a dangerous knee-high challenge from Quinten Timber -- the twin brother of Havertz's Gunners teammate Jurrien.
The player has travelled back to England with the club set to assess the severity of the injury over the coming days.
When is Kai Havertz expected to return from injury?
Germany boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken on the injury picked up by the Arsenal man but has so far refrained from divulging how serious the injury appears to be.
Speaking to the media following last night's clash in Amsterdam in which Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala also had to be withdrawn with a muscle issue, the former Liverpool head coach said: "Both are currently undergoing an MRI.
"I hope we get the diagnosis, but of course, this isn't great. The lads are probably out for us, but hopefully they'll be back in action relatively quickly."
The news will come as a huge concern to Mikel Arteta with the Spaniard having leant heavily on Havertz during the opening month of the 2026/27 campaign.
The 27-year-old has started all five of Arsenal's Premier League fixtures this term and chipped in with a couple of goals.
However, Arteta will now be weighing up his options as he awaits clarification on exactly how long he will be without the services of the attacker.
The Gunners are next in action against Leeds United on Saturday, October 10, although it remains to be seen as to whether Havertz will be fit enough to feature.
It's understood his injury isn't as serious as initially feared, meaning a likely spell of two to three weeks on the treatment table.
