Mikel Arteta has reportedly signed a new contract with Premier League champions Arsenal.
The Spaniard's contract was due to expire at the end of the season, though a new deal had seemingly been close for some time, with the BBC's Sami Mokbel confirming an agreement has now been reached.
The club are yet to confirm the length of the contract though it's believed to be at least a two-year extension, taking Arteta to at least 2029. Mokbel also reported that Arteta will receive a significant pay increase from his current deal, where he earns around £200,000 a week.
Speaking about his contract talks, Arteta said last week: "[The fans] don't have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I'm extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with."
Arteta took over from Unai Emery in December 2019, going to win the FA Cup in his first season. After struggling in the league for the first three years of his tenure, Arteta turned Arsenal's fortunes around dramatically, leading the side to three runner-up finishes before getting the Gunners over the line, to bring a first title to North London for 20 years, as well as taking them to the UEFA Champions League final.
