Joe Gelhardt makes Hull City transfer plea after promotion to the Premier League

Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt gave a subtle nod to his long-term future after helping Hull City to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Gelhardt enjoyed a second loan spell at the MKM Stadium where he scored 14 goals and registered five assists to help the Tigers achieve glory via the play-offs, including the vital second goal in the semi-final second leg against Millwall.

The 24-year-old had previously joined Hull on loan in January during the 2024/25 season, helping the club to escape relegation from the Championship before securing a return to Humberside last summer.

Gelhardt has made no secret of his enjoyment on loan at the Tigers across the last 18 months and with Sergej Jakirovic's men securing a shock ascent to the Premier League following their play-off final success against Middlesbrough, it's aniticpated that the striker's temporary stay could be made permanent.

The former Wigan Athletic academy graduate has a year remaining on his current contract with Leeds and with no reassurances over his future at Elland Road, the Whites may be tempted to cash in if the right offer presents itself.

Asked by Hull Live if he'd happily sign a permanent contract with the Tigers following their promotion, Gelhardt replied: "It's a good question, isn't it? Let's see what happens over the summer, but it's pretty clear what I want to do.

"It's amazing, it feels brilliant. To get back to the Premier League with Hull City, I love the club.

"I'm buzzing, I'm absolutely buzzing. It just shows what can happen in 12 months.

"Under the situations we had, with the embargo, we were always at a disadvantage; everybody had written us off, now we've proved everyone wrong, and now we're off to the Premier League."

Gelhardt was one of eight players to make more than 40 appearances for the Tigers in all competitions this term alongside fellow striking option Oli McBurnie.

The pair proved to be ruthlessly efficient in front of goal over the course of the campaign, with Gelhardt finding the back of the net with 37% of his shots on target in the Championship.

Whether Gelhardt remains at Leeds or pursues a move to Hull, the forward is set to feature in his first Premier League campaign since 2022/23 when he featured on 15 occasions for the Whites.
