Ipswich Town are hoping to add a World Cup winner to their ranks.
The Tractor Boys are back in the Premier League after achieving automatic promotion from the Championship last season and are showing ambition in the transfer market, spending more than €175m on 12 new signings.
Their latest target could send their outgoings soaring above the €200m mark if they secure a deal for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Exequiel Palacios.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Ipswich launched a new bid to sign the Argentina international after their initial offer was rejected by the German outfit.
"EXCL: Ipswich Town have sent new official bid to Bayer Leverkusen for Exequiel Palacios," Romano revealed in a post on X.
"#ITFC optimistic to close the deal in the next hours if all goes to plan, still not agreed but on track."
Details of a fresh offer follow widespread reports that Palacios had handed in a transfer request after Leverkusen rejected Ipswich's opening advances.
The 27-year-old has battled injury over the last two seasons, culminating in him starting just 23 Bundesliga matches, however, he has been a key pillar to the success at the BayArena down the years.
Palacios was a starter during Leverkusen's double-winning campaign under Xabi Alonso in 2023/24 after making the move from River Plate where he won the Copa Libertadores with his boyhood club River Plate.
With 41 Argentina caps to his name, he is also a proven winner at international level, lifting the Copa America on two occasions as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
