Daniel Farke claimed he felt referee Peter Banks was trying to "embarass" him by sending him off against Manchester City.
Leeds produced a gutsy effort against Pep Guardiola's side but were ultimately undone by a goal from Antoine Semenyo on the brink of half-time.
The hosts enjoyed a positive start at Elland Road but were unable to convert their chances and were left frustrated as City closed up shop in the closing stages to claim all three points.
After the full-time whistle had been blown Farke made his way onto the pitch and remonstrated with referee Peter Banks, with the official brandishing a red card.
Farke will now serve a one-match touchline suspension for the offence, and Eddie Riemer is set to take charge of the Yorkshire club when they play host to Sunderland on Tuesday night.
Speaking ahead of their clash with the Black Cats, Farke apologised and revealed it is the first time he has seen red during his time as a Premier League manager.
"I'm a very self-critical person, whenever I make a mistake I always hold my hands up and say listen I have to apologise," said Farke. "Because in my job I also have to be a role model.
"But really in this scenario, I really think it shouldn't be a red card is my honest belief.
"There will always be disagreements about situations during the game, during the game there were several decisions that we can speak about,"
He continued: "Final whistle, my first thought win, lose or draw is to go to the opponent's manager, I went over to Pep and said 'congratulations, you won the game well done' and then always I go over to the referee to shake hands.
"I was obviously not happy not with the decisions but I just wanted to run over because I wanted to be the first and not like anyone else comes over and speaks about the handball.
"I just wanted a short quiet moment with the referee, the only thing I wanted to ask is why he didn't add a few seconds at the end of added time if he gave a card for time wasting.
"I jogged over and there was not one bad word. I didn't abuse him at all, I didn't swear at him at all, I didn't use any bad language, there was no flying arms or bad gesture. I just was jogging over and wanted to ask, 'for what did you give the yellow card over there if you don't add [any additional time on]."
"And I didn't even finish because as soon as I arrived he had the red card in his hand. Didn't speak to me, didn't even look at me, just shows me the red card."
"Obviously after he shows the red card in this manner, more like to embarass me to show a red card. To show the whole world 'listen, this guy is not worth to talk to. This guy isn't even worth looking at.'
"Then I was angry I must say."
"Even then I didn’t use one bad word, I didn’t accuse him. This is not how we should work with each other. I have so much respect for the referees, I will never jog again on the pitch although I didn’t think you should be shown a red card for jogging."
Leeds currently sit six points above the relegation zone with ten games remaining.
Defeat at the weekend marked just the third time since the start of December that the club have been on the losing end in all competitions, a streak in which striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin was named Premier League Player of the Month.
