How Tottenham Hotspur could line up next season

After back-to-back 17th place finishes - and a too-close-for-comfort relegation battle in the 2025/26 season - this summer transfer window is a vital one for Tottenham Hotspur.

A 17th place finish in the 2024/25 Premier League season was papered over for Spurs by triumph in the Europa League, which also gave them passage into the UEFA Champions League.

However, that finish has since proved to not have been an anomaly, with the North London side left fighting for their lives last season, ultimately avoiding a disastrous relegation to the Championship by just two points.

As a result, all eyes will be focused on the transfer business at Spurs, as they look to rebuild their squad ahead of a crucial Premier League season - which will see them have no European football.

With that in mind, let's take a look at what a dream transfer window would look like for Roberto De Zerbi's side.

After a tumultuous campaign, significant player turnover is expected at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this summer.

French international Randall Kolo Muani has struggled to impress on his season long loan and is expected to return to PSG, while Welsh centre back Ben Davies is out of contract this summer.

Guglielmo Vicario - who made a number of high profile errors last season - looks set to be on the chopping block and should move away from Spurs this window.

Yves Bissouma has spent the majority of his Tottenham career on the injury table and should be made available for transfer by the board this summer.

Richarlison, who scored some big goals for Spurs in their relegation battle, has ultimately flattered to deceive in North London since joining from Everton and should be upgraded on in this window.

Manor Solomon and Luka Vuskovic spent the 2025/26 season out on loan and, in an ideal world, neither would be around for next season, with Solomon sold and Vuskovic given the opportunity to get more game time out on loan again.

Rodrigo Bentancur, though a high quality player with top level experience, has struggled for consistency throughout his club career and a potential sale would give De Zerbi's side more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market.

The highest profile sale for Tottenham is likely to be club captain Cristian Romero, who has been linked with a move abroad for a couple of seasons now and publicly called out the club's hierarchy on a number of occasions last season.

Incomings

  • James Trafford - Market value €25m
  • Marcos Senesi - Free
  • Andrew Robertson - Free
  • Joao Palhinha - Market value €18m
  • Savinho - Market value €40m
  • Jarrod Bowen - Market value €35m
  • Ivan Toney - Market value €20m

With a large amount of players set to exit Tottenham this summer, it is likely that the club will need to invest significant money to improve the squad.

Firstly, on-loan midfielder Joao Palhinha is an obvious choice to sign, with the Portuguese midfielder playing a key role in Spurs' survival last season.

A cheap, opportunistic deal - which already looks close to being completed - would see Bournemouth centre back Marcos Senesi join the club, as a strong replacement for his fellow countryman Romero, having been one of the Premier League's standout defenders last season.

Another free transfer which looks set to be completed soon would see Liverpool's legendary Scottish left back Andrew Robertson join the club, adding significant experience and winning mentality to the Spurs dressing room.

With a goalkeeper high on Spurs' wishlist this campaign, they have been linked with a move for outgoing Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, who - at just 23 years old - would be a commanding, long-term presence between the Tottenham Hotspur posts.

Links to Manchester City's Brazilian winger Savinho - who struggled for game time at the Etihad last season - seemingly refuse to go away and the former Girona man should be available for transfer following Pep Guardiola's departure.

With Spurs weak in wide areas, they should look to bring in another winger from last season's Premier League, with Jarrod Bowen available on a cut-price fee, following West Ham's relegation last season.

Due to Mohammed Kudus' injury problems last season, Spurs should look to bring in a deputy to compete with the Ghanaian winger for the coming season and Bowen, who has managed 148 G/A in 280 appearances for the Hammers, would do just that.

The final piece of the jigsaw for Spurs this summer is the aquisition of a striker to compete with Dominic Solanke and replace the outgoing Richarlison.

With his two-year wait period in Saudi Arabia expiring this summer, England international striker Ivan Toney has been linked with a return to the Premier League and would be a coup for almost any side in the division.

The former Brentford man has managed 32 goals in 32 Saudi Pro League matches this season, having also notched 47 G/A in his 86 Premier League appearances to date.

Tottenham Hotspur potential XI & Substitutes

How Tottenham Could Line Up next season

Reserves: Brandon Austin, Radu Dragusin, Archie Gray, Dejan Kulusevski (injured - Return date unknown), Xavi Simons (injured - early 2027), Wilson Odobert (injured - late 2026)

In this scenario, five of the six summer signings would slot straight into the Tottenham side, with Jarrod Bowen set to battle Mohammed Kudus for a place in the starting XI.

James Trafford would offer better footwork and a solid pair of hands behind the back four, which would consist of four players who are excellent on the ball, perfect for De Zerbi's style of play.

A midfield three of Palhinha, Gallagher and Maddison offers balance, with all three possessing the key attributes needed in a Premier League midfield.

Savinho, Kudus and Toney would form one of the best attacking trios in the Premier League on paper, with Solanke, Tel, Bowen and Odobert deputising.
