Newbies to American Football may well be tuning into the Super Bowl for this first time this weekend, wondering how often the showpiece NFL event takes place.
You'd be forgiven for thinking the NFL follows the same path of the FIFA World Cup, for example, who host their blockbuster event every four years.
However, the truth is, the game is actually staged every single year, with the match representing the final NFL game of the season.
Always staged in February, the Super Bowl features the two NFL Conference champions, the winners of the AFC and NFC.
This year, the New England Patriots represent the AFC, featuring in the Super Bowl for an unprecedented 12th time, as they seek a seventh title win against the 2014 champions, the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seahawks, who are the narrow pre-match favourites, are involved in their fourth Super Bowl showdown, with their last appearance in 2015, ironically against New England, coming 12 months after their maiden victory in the big game over Denver Broncos.
