How many Czech tennis players have won a Wimbledon title?

After playing some sensational tennis throughout the fortnight, Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova contested the first ever all-Czech final at SW19 in the women's singles and it was Noskova who came out on top.

Noskova, making her first appearance in a Grand Slam final, stormed to the first set inside 32 minutes and appeared to be cantering to the Wimbledon title when a defiant Muchova came fighting back.

Muchova trailed 2-5 in the second set but saved FIVE championship points to win five games in succession and stun Noskova by forcing a deciding set.

Visibly distraught with the manner in which she lost the second set, Noskova rallied and immediately reasserted her dominance. Breaking Muchova's first service game in the deciding set, the 21-year-old produced five impeccable service games to march to Wimbledon glory, winning 6-2 5-7 6-3.

She is the youngest winner of the Wimbledon women's singles since compatriot Petra Kvitova triumphed in 2011.

How many Czech tennis players have won a Wimbledon title?

  • Jan Kodes - 1973

  • Martina Navratilova - 1978, 1979, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1990

  • Jana Novotna - 1998

  • Petra Kvitova - 2011, 2014

  • Marketa Vondrousova - 2023

  • Barbora Krejcikova - 2024

  • Lindo Noskova - 2026

Despite being a nation who predominantly grow up playing on clay, Noskova's victory means she is the third Czech female to win the Wimbledon title in four years.

In 2023, Marketa Vondrousova became the first unseeded player to win a Wimbledon women's singles title as she beat five seeds on her way to claiming a first Grand Slam success.

12 months later and it was 2021 French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova's turn to fly the Czech flag at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. The former world number two produced some superb tennis as she beat Italy's Jasmine Paolini in an thrilling final.

As far as Czech females with multiple Wimbledon titles to their name, Petra Kvitova was successful in both 2011 and 2014 as her lefty serve and grass court game proved too good for the rest of the field.

Jana Novotna's win in 1998 was a particularly emotional occasion as she gained redemption for losing a lead in the final the previous year. A deciding set victory over Nathalie Tauziat saw the 29-year-old become the oldest first-time Grand Slam singles winner in the Open Era.

Czech-born Martina Navratilova holds the record with nine Wimbledon singles titles - including a run of six straight successes between 1982 and 1987.

Including doubles and mixes doubles, the legend of the game picked up a total of 20 major titles at the most iconic venue in tennis.

Jan Kodes is the only Czech man to win Wimbledon - claiming the title in 1973 to add to the two French Opens he won in 1970 and 1971.
