Horse Racing Betting Tips for Wednesday 5th August

There are five meetings scheduled across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with Flat racing dominating a day which sees two afternoon cards and three evening fixtures.

Racing Post tipster, Marcus Buckland, has provided three recommendations for the action.

Wednesday's Horse Racing Betting Tips

15:45 Pontefract - Garden Oasis @ 4/6
18:50 Kempton - Black Chiffon @ 5/1
19:00 Sligo - Hi Corbett Court @ 10/3

15:45 Pontefract - Garden Oasis @ 4/6

Tim Easterby's Garden Oasis retains plenty of ability at the age of 11 and comes here off the back of a near miss, so looks primed to repeat last year's win in this veteran handicap.

The son of Excelebration is set for his 86th career start and, although he's not the force he was at his peak in 2021/22, he's still capable, having run to Racing Post Ratings of 79 (twice) and 81 this term.

Garden Oasis was beaten just a head off Wednesday's official mark of 72 in an open handicap at Ripon 18 days ago, being edged out in the final stride under David Allan.

The gelding should have something close to his optimum underfoot conditions and appears in far better form at present than his five rivals.

18:50 Kempton - Black Chiffon @ 5/1

Andrew Balding's Black Chiffon was easy to back before making a winning debut at Salisbury last October, the daughter of Night Of Thunder having been notably green and edgy in the preliminaries.

She almost reared over a couple of times in the paddock, likely after spooking at the big screen, so to see her run down the more experienced Too Hot To Tango, a subsequent winner, was a notable performance and one that suggests she's well above-average.

Black Chiffon has been off for 307 days, suggesting she's had some kind of issue.

However, she was well on top at the line on her debut and should be up to defying a penalty with this additional furlong very much in her favour at Kempton.

19:00 Sligo - Hi Corbett Court @ 10/3

Billy Lee had an exceptional Galway Festival, partnering seven winners across the seven days, including three at double-figure odds.

His good run looks set to continue at Sligo on Wednesday evening courtesy of the Paddy Twomey-trained Hi Corbett Court, the juvenile making his handicap debut following an improved effort at Cork at the end of last month.

The grey son of Starman is by no means thrown in off this opening mark of 71, but there were some encouraging signs when fifth last time and he's bagged stall one, which is a positive, with low numbers usually favoured here over sprint trips.

An €85,000 purchase, he's out of an unraced half-sister to Diyani and Dilawara, who were at their most effective from 6.5f to a mile, so this return to 6f ought to suit.
