Racing Post tipster Marcus Buckland has provided three recommendations for Tuesday's horse racing action.
His selections come from Downpatrick in Ireland and the meetings at Beverley and Wolverhampton.
14:07 Downpatrick - Fastnet Crystal @ 10/3
15:48 Beverley - Melting Snow @ 6/1
16:53 Wolverhampton - Lady Magu @ 15/8
14:07 Downpatrick - Fastnet Crystal @ 10/3
Joseph O’Brien’s Fastnet Crystal was reported to have suffered a breathing problem when a well beaten favourite at Punchestown in January and warrants another chance now switched to hurdles with a first-time tongue-tie applied.
The daughter of Crystal Ocean had shaped with a ton of promise on her debut at Thurles in December, the five-year-old making excellent late progress from an unpromising position under Finian Maguire to take second of the 16 runners.
She was beaten only half-a-length by subsequent Grade 2 runner-up Lennon Grove on that occasion and was arguably unfortunate not to have got the better of Gavin Cromwell’s representative, having briefly had her momentum checked when short of room approaching the final furlong.
Her Punchestown run was simply too bad to be true and she could well prove a very different proposition now that she tackles hurdles on a sound surface.
15:48 Beverley - Melting Snow @ 6/1
The Ed Dunlop-trained Melting Snow hasn’t pulled up any trees in her first three starts, but there has been encouragement to be gleaned from her performances, most notably when keeping on steadily for sixth over an extended 7f in maiden company here last month.
The daughter of Too Darn Hot, who runs colours of the yard’s dual Oaks and multiple Group 1 winner Snow Fairy, has run to Racing Post Ratings of 63 the last twice, so there’s reason to be confident she can cash in off this opening official mark of 62, the step up to middle distances almost certain to bring about improvement.
16:53 Wolverhampton - Lady Magu @ 15/8
Both Roger Varian and Ray Dawson are enjoying a fine campaign, the pair combining for a number of notable victories, including with Raammee in the the John Smith’s Cup, Europe’s most valuable handicap, at York on Saturday.
They hold outstanding claims of another winner in the opener at Wolverhampton courtesy of handicap debutante Lady Magu.
The selection isn’t ideally drawn in stall nine, but she created a good impression when winning a 1m2f Ffos Las maiden by 4.75 lengths on soft ground last month, running to a Racing Post Rating of 79 in the process.
She’s officially rated only 75 and should be capable of taking advantage, particularly with this extra quarter-mile appearing more in her favour than the majority of her rivals.
