The Group 2 Hungerford Stakes takes centre stage at Newbury on Saturday with the Group 2 contest the fourth of seven races at the track.
The Racing Post’s Phill Anderson has picked out three selections for the best of the action on Saturday’s card at Newbury.

The handicap over the minimum trip has attracted 13 runners but it doesn’t look like the deepest race for the grade and perhaps a good opportunity for Glamorous Breeze to deservedly get her head back in front.
This daughter of Cable Bay has been running well in defeat all season and she arrives on the back of a career-best effort at the Glorious Goodwood Festival when beaten just under a length.
That looked like a strong race on paper and furthermore, this is a drop to Class 3 company so there’s every reason to think she’s going to remain competitive.
With plenty of the pace in this contest drawn towards the far side, stall three looks ideal for her and she should be vying for favouritism in this contest. With bet365 offering an extra place on the race, she can be played each-way at 6/1.
14:35 Newbury - Humam @ 17/2
Another selection that ran in a hot race last time out is Humam who arrives on the back of a one-length defeat at Newmarket.
He split a couple of Charlie Appleby’s promising colts and it’s an effort worth marking up having set strong fractions from the front, so the fact he was beaten such a short distance is to his credit.
Notably, there’s a real lack of pace in Newbury’s contest on Saturday so he may get away with an uncontested lead and perhaps leniently, the assessor has left his mark alone for the Newmarket effort.
His last win came at York which is a speed favouring, flat track so a less demanding stamina test could be right up his street and this doesn’t look like the strongest race for the grade.
He’s another that is worth supporting each-way at 17/2 with bet365 provided that the eight runners stand their ground.
15:10 Newbury - Witness Stand @ 6/1
The final selection comes in the feature contest and while Never So Brave would take some stopping on last season’s form, he’s not been at the same level this campaign and could be worth taking on.
The one that looks a bit overpriced is last year’s runner-up, Witness Stand. Dr Richard Newland’s five-year-old ran a cracker on his return to Britain in a Group 3 at Epsom on Derby day and bounced straight back from a lesser run on the Roodee with a one-length defeat in the Lennox at Glorious Goodwood.
He may have been a shade flattered by being allowed to dictate his own fractions on the front end but it’s easy to see a similar scenario panning out with no obvious pace rivals in the race. He is also a real seven-furlong specialist who could be hard to pass if he is allowed to make the running.
Given that he’s fifth in with regards to the betting at the time of writing, he’s worth chancing each-way at 6/1.
