Saturday evening is the second day of the Breeders’ Cup 2026 and Racing Post Tipster Jonny Pearson is on hand to run you through his NAP and next best selection for the action from Keeneland.
It is a high quality card and there are nine Grade 1 races across both the turf and the dirt. This is one of the best meetings of the entire racing calendar and there are lots of stars on show from all over the world.
The meeting concludes with the classic and last year’s winner Forever Young takes on the last two winners of the Kentucky Derby in Sovereignty (2025) and Golden Tempo (2026). It is set to be a race for the ages.
Sovereignty @ 9/4
Rider | Junior Alvarado |
Trainer | William Mott |
Owner | Godolphin Racing LLC |
Age | 4 |
Overall Form | 11-231 |
Sovereignty has won five of his last seven career starts
Junior Alvarado has won two Breeders’ Cup races
William Mott has won 1o Breeders’ Cup races, including two wins in the Classic
This is one of the biggest races in America and the final race of the meeting. The Breeders’ Cup Classic is revered worldwide, and last year’s winner Forever Young represents Japan once again.
He looks vulnerable in what looks a hot contest, and it is 2025 US Thoroughbred Horse of the Year, SOVEREIGNTY, who holds an outstanding chance having missed the race last year.
He has had three runs this season, and whilst not at his best on the first two, was truly back to form last time.
He won the Whitney Stakes by more than four lengths in what was a good field, and did it with such authority, that if he returns in the same form he will be very difficult to beat.
Forever Young did impress when last seen in New York, but it wasn’t against the strongest field, and although he has the better CV, if Sovereignty is at his best, will find at least one too good for him.
There is plenty of pace in the race with a few front runners, and this should set the race up perfectly for the four-year-old colt. Sovereignty looks to have the world at his feet and he can prove himself the best horse in the US.

Further Ado @ 15/8
Rider | Flavien Prat |
Trainer | Brad H Cox |
Owner | Spendthrift Farm LLC |
Age | 3 |
Overall Form | 10152 |
Further Ado is 2-2 at Keeneland
Brad Cox has won the race previously
Flavien Prat has been successful in the race twice, including last year
The Dirt Mile, for all it is a good race, is looking to be a weaker contest than it could be with some of the main ante-post fancies going for the Classic.
FURTHER ADO is favourite for the contest and is going to take all the beating. He has the best form in the book and is returning to a track where he has had his most impressive career victories, including winning the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes by 11 lengths.
He is running at a course he loves, has a good enough draw in stall 1, and following a good prep run last time, back in trip here, is the most likely winner of the race, and can sign off his career with a win of the highest level at the Breeders’ Cup.
Jonny Pearson is a handicapper for the Racing Post who has been in good form recently, tipping Saintly Dancer to win the Thousand Guineas.
