It is Irish Champions weekend and the first day of the meeting is at Leopardstown, and Racing Post handicapper and tipster Jonny Pearson is on hand to run you through his best bets.
The Irish Champion Stakes is the feature race at Leopardstown, with the biggest form angle being the Juddmonte International, with Item, Constitution River, Almaqam and Hawk Mountain all racing against each other once more.
Elsewhere on the card there are a number of other stakes races, as well as some competitive handicap action.

Krasimir has been in good form through the season and looks sure to give a good account of himself once more off a 1lb lower mark than he carried at York.
He was third on this occasion with the first two home that day appearing to be comfortably ahead of their marks. He wore cheekpieces for the first time and they had a positive effect, with him having a good trip through the race and maintaining his gallop to the line.
Adding to his chances is Reese Holohan claiming 7lb on the gelding. Holohan has been operating at a strike-rate of 15 percent in the last two weeks, and this looks an ideal opportunity to improve on this.
Oro Blanco has sneaked in at the bottom of the weights with the withdrawal of another runner, and could pose the biggest threat to Krasimir.
15:15 Leopardstown - Purview @ 13/8
My second selection comes in the Group 3 Kilternan Stakes and it is Purview who can achieve another win at this level. He has been successful on his last three starts and can make it four in a row.
He could have raced at a higher level this weekend but this looks a better opportunity for victory and he really should be winning on the form we have seen to date.
Purview has won twice at the course this year, including over the same course and distance last time out. He has a 3lb penalty to shoulder for this but this should be of no issue for the progressive colt.
All the evidence points to a win for the son of Kingman.
17:00 Leopardstown - Item @ 2/1
My final pick comes in the feature, and I am hoping it will be a good afternoon for Juddmonte, with Item fancied to back up his win in the Juddmonte International when last seen.
He did well to win on that occasion having been forced to check and switch out at a crucial point in the race, and had this not happened, he likely would have won by further.
The colt’s only defeat came in the Derby and this is easily excusable with it being run on just about the wettest ground that was encountered through the summer. I’d expect him to add to his five wins.
There are dangers lurking in the race, particularly Almaqam and Hawk Mountain, but if the race at York is anything to go by (which it is), Item is the one they need to beat.
