A wide-margin winner of a Pontefract novice in April, William Haggas’s INFRAAD was all the rage ahead of his handicap debutant at Chester earlier this month, when the son of Ghaiyyath was sent off as favourite.
However, those that got involved in the gamble soon knew their fate as he started slowly and found himself poorly positioned from the outset.
He rarely saw any daylight, but kept on nicely under sympathetic handling from Harry Davies to be beaten a total of just a length-and-a-quarter and very nearly snatching second.
He’s clearly considered a good bit better than his current mark of 90 and it will be no surprise to see him bounce back.

WILD BLOSSOM faded under pressure to finish 10th of the 27 runners in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot, but she’d looked a potential top-notcher on her debut at Carlisle and a return to that sort of form should see her win this decisively.
Karl Burke’s juvenile cost 300,000gns at the breeze-up sales in April and looked worth every penny of that when bounding 10 lengths clear of Crownbreaker on her introduction in May, running to a Racing Post Rating of 94 in the process.
The runner-up turned that form on its head when finishing five places ahead of her at the Royal Meeting, but that clearly wasn’t her true running and she may simply have failed to handle the occasion.
This represents a significant drop in class and I’m expecting a dominant performance.

Josh and Gary Moore’s RORY ROCKET had proven extremely progressive prior to suffering a long odds-on defeat at Salisbury last time, but the four-year-old had valid excuses for that and he likely remains on a good mark.
The son of Aclaim struggled with consistency last year, but things have really clicked for him this season, winning off a mark of 60 at Kempton in March and 61 and 65 at Brighton, the most recent of those last month coming under today’s rider Jude Fernandes by a growing seven-length margin.
He was far too keen when turned over at Salisbury 18 days ago, a small field likely not helping.
He should have no such issues in this 28-runner cavalry charge and looks well drawn in stall seven.
