Newly-promoted teams generally experience a baptism of fire after reaching the Premier League.
Data collated prior to the start of last season revealed that teams coming up from the Championship have historically won their opening game of the season less than 20% of the time.
Such a reality check has often set the tone for the remainder of the campaign, as newly-promoted clubs struggle to compete with the established order.
Both Sunderland and Leeds United managed to avoid the drop last season, with the Black Cats exceeding expectations by becoming the first promoted team to secure European football since Wolves back in 2018-19.
In the previous two seasons however, all three promoted sides were immediately relegated back to the second tier, a fate Coventry City, Ipswich Town and Hull City will be desperate to avoid over the next nine months.
Despite only narrowly securing a play-off place last season, Hull have emerged as the surprise package in their return to the Premier League, picking up wins in their opening two games.
The Tigers stunned Manchester United on the opening weekend before beating Coventry at the CBS Arena to join Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea as the only teams to record a perfect start.
In doing so, Sergej Jakirovic's side have become just the fourth promoted team in the Premier League era to record six points from their first two games.
Interestingly, on all four occasions, the teams to achieve the feat earned their place in the top flight via the play-offs.
Has a promoted team ever won their first three Premier League games?
While Hull City's stunning start has already exceeded expectations of the pre-season relegation favourites, their success as a newly-promoted side is not unprecedented.
Should they record a third-straight league win when they play host to Aston Villa, they will become just the second club ever to go three-for-three.
The first promoted side ever to do so were Sam Allardyce's Bolton Wanderers in 2001-02.
Like Hull, they secured a place in the Premier League via the play-offs before embarking on a blistering start to life in the top flight.
The club travelled to Leicester on the opening day and routed the Foxes 5-0 before claiming back-to-back home wins against Middlesbrough and Liverpool to briefly sit top of the table.
One recurrent them which will be sure to trouble Hull fans is the drought that followed their respective starts.
After winning three on the bounce Bolton would go winless in their next six league fixtures, ultimately finishing just four points clear of the relegation zone.
The next time a promoted side claimed back-to-back wins to start their campaign was a full 15 years later.
This time it was Hull themselves, beating reigning champions Leicester in their 2016-17 opener before recording a 2-0 win over Swansea City the following weekend.
Like Bolton though, the good times would prove to be short-lived and they subsequently went on a dismal run of just one win in their next 18 games before being relegated.
The following season Huddersfield Town emulated the Tigers with an impressive start to their first-ever Premier League campaign, collecting wins over Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
Like Bolton and Hull before them, they would soon run into difficulties and didn't win another game until the end of October as they ultimately went on to finish 16th.
