Grades for every England player so far at the 2026 World Cup

It's fair to say England haven't exactly set the World Cup alight so far.

In the top half of the draw there's favourites France, who've scored at least three goals in all four games and now face Paraguay for a spot in the World Cup quarter-finals.

In the bottom half of the draw is Argentina, who look to have picked up from where they left off in 2022. Then there's England, who may well need to beat both of these teams to win the World Cup.

England laboured in the first half against Croatia before turning on the style after the break to run out 4-2 winners. The draw against Ghana was extremely poor and the win against Panama was much less comfortable than it should have been.

An early goal for DR Congo in the round of 32 jeopardised England's World Cup hopes before Harry Kane came to the rescue.

England will need significant improvement on an individual and team level if they're to beat Mexico and then potentially Brazil, Argentina and France.

Ahead of their trip to the Azteca, we've graded every England player from the 2026 World Cup.

Bet on England at the World Cup.

World Cup

Jordan Pickford - E

With a group that featured Croatia, Ghana and Panama, Jordan Pickford was never going to be kept particularly busy, and the round of 32 clash with DR Congo should have been more of the same. But the Everton keeper will have been disappointed with his efforts for Congo's goal, beaten at his near post.

Pickford has always been able to fall back on his comfort with the ball at his feet, but even his distribution has looked shaky, and with just six saves made, bigger performances are needed.

Ezri Konsa - E

Where is the Ezri Konsa who's been so impressive for Aston Villa? England haven't been asked to do much defending but Konsa has looked shaky throughout the tournament and was extremely lucky not to have conceded a penalty against Ghana. With England's issues at right-back, moving Konsa out of the heart of defence might not be a bad thing.

Nico O'Reilly - C

Nico O'Reilly was understandably left out of the starting XI for the clash against Ghana with Thomas Tuchel preferring Djed Spence for his ability to defend counter-attacks. The Manchester City man's work in possession was duly missed and he's played every minute since. Remarkably composed for a 21-year-old, the 6ft 4in left-back could still leave a mark on this tournament from a set piece.

Declan Rice - C+

Declan Rice's set pieces have been as dangerous as ever and on another day he'd have had a couple of assists against DR Congo. Was instrumental in England's equaliser when moving to right-back, but more is needed of their vice-captain.

John Stones - C-

Only started against Croatia where he didn't look entirely at ease as a left-sided centre-back.

Marc Guehi - C-

England haven't looked comfortable defensively, and while Marc Guehi has been impressive on the ball, the senior defender needs to step up as we approach the latter stages.

Bukayo Saka - B-

Still nursing his Achilles injury, Bukayo Saka has shown promise in his fleeting appearances. Was a difference-maker off the bench against Croatia and England have always looked better with him on the pitch.

Elliot Anderson - C-

Tidy in possession and keeps things ticking over, but not influencing matches the way a £116m midfielder should. Potentially not being utilised properly in Tuchel's setup, but more will be needed of a starting central midfielder for England.

Harry Kane - A-

Quiet against Ghana and missed a gilt-edged chance, but found the net against Panama. Either side of those games, Kane scored a brace against Croatia in their opener and stole the show against DR Congo.

Jude Bellingham - B+

Excellent against Croatia, quiet against Ghana, match-winner against Panama. Jude Bellingham let Kane take the headlines against DR Congo but ought to have scored once or twice himself. There needs to be another big moment from the Real Madrid man if England are to go all the way.

Marcus Rashford - B-

Two impressive appearances from the bench in England's first two games saw Marcus Rashford start against Panama where he showed plenty of endeavour but without the same end product. Level dropped off somewhat against DR Congo and his starting place is now in jeopardy.

Dean Henderson - N/A

Jordan Henderson - N/A

Dan Burn - N/A

Kobbie Mainoo - N/A

Morgan Rogers - D

Offered nothing in his first three appearances of the World Cup and was an unused sub against DR Congo.

Anthony Gordon - B-

The exact inverse of Marcus Rashford, Anthony Gordon was underwhelming in his two starts against Croatia and Ghana before changing the game against DR Congo. Provided both the assists and may now start against Mexico.

Ollie Watkins - N/A

Noni Madueke - C-

Has had the chance to shine with Bukayo Saka being rotated out of the team, but Noni Madueke hasn't offered enough. Impressive against Croatia, things have been disappointing since, and England have usually looked better when he's been taken away from the right-wing.

Eberechi Eze - C-

Not quite having the impact Tuchel might want from one of his 'finishers', but Eberechi Eze was good off the bench against DR Congo as England looked to try something new.

Ivan Toney - N/A

James Trafford - N/A

Reece James - C-

A fine performance against Croatia but didn't give England what they needed in the 0-0 draw against Ghana. Was bored of the talk about his injury record before the Ghana game, where he picked up an injury.

Djed Spence - C-

Not easy being asked to play on both sides of defence, and has been brought in specifically for his pace, but Djed Spence isn't helping England going forward against sides they're struggling to break down

Jarell Quansah - D

Drafted in at right-back against Panama where he didn't look particularly comfortable. Injured and taken off.
