Gabriel Martinelli given 'green light' for Arsenal exit

Gabriel Martinelli is set to leave Arsenal after being given the go ahead to seal a move to Saudi Arabia, according to reports.

The Brazilian winger has found consistent game time difficult to come by in recent seasons, starting just 11 Premier League games last season as Leandro Trossard took the lion's share of minutes on the left hand side.

Although Trossard has departed for Besiktas, Arsenal recently acquired Greek winger Christos Tzolis, whose impressive start for the Gunners has so far kept Martinelli out of the team.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shared details of Martinelli's proposed transfer to Al Hilal on X, saying: "Understand Gabriel Martinelli has given green light to Al Hilal move as contracts are being checked."

"Al Hilal and Arsenal finalising package over €65m as now all moving to the last stages of negotiations. Martinelli’s medical will be booked soon."

The Gunners stand to make a significant profit on the 25-year-old should the deal go through after signing him for just €7.1m from his boyhood side Ituano in 2019.

With Tzolis, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze all able to play off the left, it is unclear whether or not Mikel Arteta will attempt to bring in another winger to replace the outgoing Martinelli. The Gunners did, however, receive somewhat of a boost in their pursuit of Argentina international Julian Alvarez.

Alvarez has been the subject of significant interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona this summer but Atleti are unwilling to let him join a domestic rival. This does leave the door open for a move to the Emirates and the sale of Martinelli would raise some of the funds needed to pay the huge €150m asking fee.

Arsenal has been previously linked with a move for Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr but the deal collapsed after the Brazilian signed a new contract at the Bernabeu.
