Read what bet365's Steve Freeth had to say as Everton produced a major twist in the Premier League title race.
There were goals aplenty this weekend with every game either going Over 2.5 Goals or featuring both teams scoring, with 37 across the 10 matches and another twist in the title race.
Arsenal showed no nerves when recording a routine win over Fulham with the Gunners into 8/13 for the title prior to Manchester City taking the field at Everton and further shortening to 1/5 with the Citizens dropping points on Merseyside.
The good news for bet365 customers was that Everton and Beto bets were settled as winners thanks to our ‘Two Goals Ahead Early Payout’ and ‘Sub On, Play On’ concessions. We paid out on Everton when substitute Thierno Barry made it 3-1 on 81 minutes and his brace off the bench meant Beto backers were celebrating, despite being replaced just after the hour with Manchester City leading 1-0.
Elsewhere, punters and Michael Carrick enjoyed a good result at Old Trafford. Carrick continues to work his magic and is now into 1/3 to start next season as Manchester United’s manager after the 3-2 win over fierce rivals Liverpool. Both sides are likely to finish in the Top Four with the pair quoted at 1/1000 and 4/11 respectively.
It’s advantage Spurs in the relegation battle at the bottom of the Premier League with Roberto de Zerbi’s side benefitting from a much-changed Aston Villa side in-between Europa League semi-final legs. Tottenham are now 11/4 for the drop, while West Ham, who suffered a 3-0 defeat at Brentford and face Arsenal next, are into 2/7 for relegation.
However, Villa’s Europa League opponents, Nottingham Forest, were able to do the business at Chelsea having drifted to a whopping 13/2 by kick-off time having also made numerous changes with the Tricky Trees now out to 100/1 for the drop.
Derek McInnes’ half-time team talk worked a treat with Hearts turning around a 1-0 deficit to beat Rangers having been priced at 17/2 at the interval at a raucous Tynecastle. Hearts are three points clear of Celtic and 4/6 to get their hands on the Scottish Premiership trophy. It’s the small matter of Celtic v Rangers next weekend, while the Jambos travel to fourth placed Motherwell.
On the continent, we saw heavily rotated teams from the UEFA Champions League semi-finalist trio of Atletico Madrid (10/3), Bayern Munich (1/4) and PSG (4/11) with only one winner – Diego Simeone’s side in his 1000th match in charge as Atleti won at Valencia.
PSG were held by Lorient, while Bayern Munich needed Michael Olise to come off the bench to score a 100th minute equaliser versus Heidenheim. We had already paid out on the visitors having gone 2-0 up just after the half hour mark.
Our Two Goals Ahead Early Payout was also triggered by Cologne (2-0) at Union Berlin which ended 2-2 and on Hoffenheim (3-1) at home to Stuttgart which finished 3-3 in a Bundesliga coupon that saw 34 goals over the 10 matches.
Goals were hard to find in Serie A, which was much more to our liking. Leaders Inter may have won, but short priced Milan and Juventus didn’t, while Como and Napoli ended 0-0.
In La Liga, Villarreal sealed UEFA Champions League qualification as the Yellow Submarine sunk Levante 5-1 with Nicolas Pepe getting two assists and a goal. I once backed him to finish top Premier League goalscorer when he was at Arsenal, but we’ll move swiftly on. The top six of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Villarreal, Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and Celta Vigo all won this weekend.
"It was Bet Builder heaven for punters, now we're taking no chances in Munich!"@stevefreeth returns with Trading Talk.
