Former Manchester United defender Brandon Williams is reportedly training with League Two outfit Rotherham United.
Paul Davis of Rotherham Advertiser broke the news that the 25-year-old 'is training' with the fourth tier side 'during the early stages of the club's pre-season programme'.
Rotherham Head of Football Steve McLaren has obvious connections with Man Utd -- serving as assistant manager to Sir Alex Ferguson and later Erik ten Hag -- and so he may be keen to give the full-back an opportunity after a difficult few years in football.
Rotherham Advertiser's Davis added that Williams 'may feature' when The Millers lock horns with non-league outfit Parkgate at Roundwood, which is set to kick-off at 19:00 BST on Friday 10th July.
Williams has endured a downfall that few envisaged when he made the breakthrough into the Red Devils' first team setup in the 2019/20 campaign.
The full-back started the season with the U21 side in Premier League 2, but a combination of his impressive performances and the senior side's defensive shortage saw him make the step up.
After making his debut on 25th September as a substitute in an EFL Cup match against Rochdale, games came thick and fast for the prospect and before you know it he was playing 90 minutes on a regular basis in the top-flight -- scoring his first senior goal in just his second Premier League start against Sheffield United.
After such a bright debut campaign at Old Trafford, Williams was scarecly used by Ole Gunnar Solskjær in the the following term and the summer of 2021 saw him complete the loan switch to Norwich City.
Despite a relatively promising spell with the Canaries -- which saw him play 29 games in all competitions -- the defender returned to Man Utd and featured just once for the club in the 2022/23 season after struggling to regain fitness following an injury sustained earlier in the campaign.
An underwhelming loan spell with Ipswich Town followed, and the Red Devils announced that he would be leaving the club following the expiry of his contract in June 2024.
While in most cases footballers waste no time in finding a new club when becoming a free agent, Williams spent a full year out of the game before eventually joining Hull City in 2025 -- where he played just one Championship game in a disappointing return to football.
Williams has played just 19 senior games since the close of the 2021/22 season and so it's yet to be seen as to what level he's at, but Rotherham appear keen to take a punt on the former Man Utd academy graduate and could offer him a football lifeline if he impresses in pre-season.
