West Ham United v Charlton Athletic Prediction: Hammers 21/10 for London supremacy

Nuno Espirito Santo would have been thrilled to see his West Ham United side build a two-goal lead at Burnley in their Championship opener but they were pegged back and settled for a point.

Now the Hammers are back in Championship action on their own patch for the first time since August 2011, back in the Upton Park days.

Nuno will be all too aware of the need for a winning start at home on Saturday as things can become edgy at the London Stadium if things aren't going to the home script.

Charlton came from behind to beat Derby County in their Championship opener and have lost just one of the last six league meetings with West Ham – albeit the most recent of those was in February 2007.

West Ham United v Charlton Athletic Prediction

Best Bet: West Ham United to Win & Both Teams to Score @ 21/10

West Ham were excellent at Turf Moor last Sunday and were primed for three points when Manor Solomon marked his debut with their second goal on 72 minutes, adding to the early opener from Max Kilman.

Oliver Scarles conceded a penalty with seven minutes left and, from there, the Hammers saw their lead evaporate.

They also fell behind here against Portsmouth in the EFL Cup before scoring three times for a convincing win.

Charlton have scored five goals in two games so far and may well get on the scoresheet again but West Ham, with new £22m signing Arne Engels set for a debut, should have the firepower to outscore the Addicks.

Alternative Bet: Card Handicap Charlton -1 @ 7/5

Charlton are yet to collect a booking this season in wins over Cheltenham Town and Derby. The Addicks made just 15 fouls across those two games, with only seven in last weekend's league win over the Rams.

West Ham gave up 12 fouls in the EFL Cup win here against Portsmouth and nine at Burnley in their league opener. Furthermore, the Hammers picked up four yellow cards in that draw at Turf Moor.

They appear prone to defensive lapses and will play on the front foot here, which should invite Charlton to hurt them on the counter and possibly lead to West Ham once more racking up the cards.

Injury prevented Argentine forward Taty Castellanos from fully impacting his first season with West Ham last time, and the Hammers faithful will ponder if they might have survived had he remained fit given his six Premier League goals in 18 appearances.

Keeping hold of the 28-year-old could be a major factor this season. He landed a brace either side of half-time in the cup win over Pompey a fortnight ago, with Jarrod Bowen on target in between.

The skipper's loyalty was another massive fillip for West Ham after their relegation and, between them, Castellanos and Bowen are a major goal threat.

With both teams expected to score in an attacking contest, over 2.5 goals also looks a likely outcome, as it has been in all four games this season featuring West Ham or Charlton.

The Hammers had four bookings last weekend and a London derby always has scope for getting spicy. More than two bookings completes the bet builder.
