Toluca v Tigres Prediction: Toluca 17/20 to take down Tigres

Toluca face off against Tigres in the CONCACAF Champions Cup final on Sunday morning as both teams look to win a second continental crown this century.

One has to go back 23 years to the last time Toluca won this tournament. Tigres, however, won the Champions Cup in 2020 after runner-up finishes in 2019, 2017 and 2016.

Toluca defeated Los Angeles FC 5-2 on aggregate to reach this stage of the competition, while Tigres also swatted aside an MLS side, defeating Nashville 2-0 on aggregate to reach their fifth final since 2016.

The Estadio Nemesio Diez hosts what could turn out to be an exciting matchup between the two clubs.

Toluca vs Tigres

Toluca vs Tigres Prediction

Best Bet: Toluca to win @ 17/20

Toluca supporters have been getting used to watching their team win trophies recently.

Not only did the Red Devils win the 2025 Clausura, but they also followed it up by claiming the 2025 Apertura title a few months later.

As such, progress into the final of the Champions Cup means Toluca can win their third trophy in the space of 12 months.

The recent matchup between Toluca and Tigres finished goalless, but Toluca did win on penalties against their opponents to lift the Apertura title in December. Might this give the club a psychological advantage?

While Antonio Mohamed’s men failed to defend their Clausura title after suffering defeat to Pachuca last time out, thoughts now turn to a first continental triumph since 2003.

Alternative Bet: Both teams to score @ 8/11

Since going from a two-legged affair to a single match two years ago, the previous two finals finished 3-0 and 5-0.

This match should be different. Across the eight games between the clubs prior to the recent 0-0 draw, both teams scored in five of those matches.

Across 17 Apertura matches, both teams scored in 10 of Toluca’s matches. For Tigres, this bet would have landed in 11 of their 17 games during the same period.

Both teams scored in Tigres’ last appearance at this stage. When Toluca won their previous title in 2003, the two games finished 3-3 and 2-1.

Although finals tend to be cagey affairs, this one could well feature goals for both teams.

Across the previous eight matches in the final of this competition (including two-legged finals), three or more goals have been scored in six of them.

Both teams found the back of the net on 28 occasions in the recent Clausura season, a tally bettered by only three teams.

During the campaign, 11 of Toluca’s league games saw three or more goals being scored, while seven of Tigres’ 17 games saw three or more goals being scored.

The key attacking threat for Toluca is Paulinho. He has scored 29 goals in 40 games across the entire season, with eight of those coming in the Champions Cup.

Paulinho netted twice in the second leg of the semi-final against Los Angeles and will be keen to add another goal or two in the final.

For Tigres, striker Andre-Pierre Gignac will be looking to bow out on a high. It appears as though the French cult hero is departing the club after the final.

This season hasn’t exactly been his most prolific, scoring just three goals. In this competition, he does average 0.7 shots on target per game.

Given what is at stake, plus it likely being his farewell, he will be determined to give everything against Toluca.
