New Zealand v Belgium World Cup Prediction: 13/10 Red Devils to turn up the heat

There is plenty on the line at BC Place in Vancouver on Saturday, when New Zealand and Belgium go in search of a victory in their Group G finale.

Two draws have left Belgium third in their section and they know a win in Canada would secure their place in the last-32 stage, either as group winners, runners-up or one of the best third-placed teams.

For the Red Devils to top the pile, they need to beat New Zealand by a margin of three or more goals and hope Egypt are held by Iran.

A share of the spoils could be enough to grab second place, if Iran are defeated by Egypt, but a positive result for Iran could end Belgium's World Cup hopes if they don't beat New Zealand.

It is a simpler equation for New Zealand, who must pick up a victory if they want to progress to the knockouts. Should they achieve this, they can finish second if Iran fail to beat Egypt.

If Iran get the better of Egypt, then the All Whites would have to settle for one of the eight best third-placed spots.

New Zealand v Belgium Prediction

Best Bet: Belgium to win and both teams to score @ 13/10

There are lots of permutations for the four teams in Group G and there promises to be plenty of movement in the standings before the 90 minutes are up.

However, Belgium and New Zealand know they need to forget about the details for now and concentrate on getting a win.

It has been a disappointing tournament for both nations, especially Belgium, who were on a 13-game unbeaten streak heading into the World Cup and would have fancied their chances of going far.

They could, of course, still go deep in the tournament, but they need to take care of business in Vancouver first and they should have enough quality in their ranks to do this.

Belgium have had 38 shots in their first two matches, 10 of those on target, so they are creating scoring opportunities and just need to add a little bit of ruthlessness to their play.

New Zealand will certainly give up chances, they have allowed 36 shots and conceded five goals - two against Iran and three in the defeat to Egypt.

The All Whites have failed to record a shutout in their last 13 games, evidence of their fragile defence, and a Belgium side who thumped Tunisia 5-0 before the World Cup can take advantage.

But New Zealand have shown their attacking qualities in the tournament, netting three times, and they can at least get a consolation.

Alternative Bet: Maxim De Cuyper 2+ shots on target @ 11/4

Deployed at left-back in the draw with Iran, Belgium's Maxim De Cuyper found himself in a number of shooting positions and he managed to get off five shots.

Four of the Brighton defender's attempts ended up on target and he looks capable of testing out the New Zealand goalkeeper at least twice.

The All Whites have allowed 36 shots at their goal, of which 11 have been on target, and De Cuyper could pose a big attacking threat.

New Zealand v Belgium Bet Builder Tip

  • Chris Wood to register an assist

  • Kevin De Bruyne 2+ shots

  • Tim Payne 1+ fouls committed

    Pays 14/1

Nottingham Forest striker Chris Wood assisted both goals in New Zealand's draw against Iran and he can add to his tally against Belgium.

Napoli midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has racked up the efforts for Belgium in his two games, managing four against Egypt and then five against Iran.

New Zealand full-back Tim Payne has committed a foul in both World Cup matches and he may struggle to cope against the likes of Leandro Trossard and Alexis Saelemaekers.
