Given his history of overperforming with Ligue 1 sides, Bruno Genesio looked a great appointment for Marseille over the summer.
Four losses from his first five Ligue 1 games suggested maybe not, but the experienced French tactician has since steadied the ship and they are favourites to beat Toulouse at the Stade Velodrome on Sunday.
Toulouse are only two points worse off than their hosts, though, so expect them to take the game to the Phocaeans and make for an intriguing encounter.

Best Bet: Marseille to win @ 10/11
Four losses in eight Ligue 1 games is not ideal for Marseille - and the less said about their Europa League performances the better - but it is worth noting that those league defeats came against Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco, Rennes and Paris FC.
When facing weaker teams, Genesio’s men have been contrastingly excellent. OM scored an impressive 11 goals in beating Troyes, Angers and Le Havre in their last three league matches, and that spells trouble for Toulouse.
The visitors have started the season well enough but the measly two wins they have amassed suggests they are some way off the level of Marseille, as does last week’s poor performance in a 0-0 home draw with promoted Troyes.
Alternative Bet: Igor Paixao anytime goalscorer @ 15/8
Marseille’s improved form has coincided with an uptick in performances from key men, most notably Igor Paixao.
The Brazilian winger scored his first goal of the campaign in a 5-2 hammering of Angers on 18th October and swiftly followed up by getting on the scoresheet in last week’s 4-3 win over Le Havre.
Paixao showed his eye for goal when netting 16 times in 30 appearances for Feyenoord during the 2024/25 Eredivisie season before his move to Marseille and he can keep up his scoring form on Sunday.
Goals have been a real feature of Marseille’s recent games, with their last two producing a total of 14 alone, and this clash should keep the trend going given both Genesio and Toulouse manager Jens Berthel Askou like their teams to play fast and press aggressively.
That makes the over an obvious starting point for a bet builder, especially with there being three or more goals in all four of the Phocaeans’ Ligue 1 home matches as well as four of Toulouse’s last five games.
After Friday’s games, only PSG (68.4) had averaged more possession than Marseille’s 57.7 per cent in Ligue 1, so expect Toulouse to do more of the aggressive pressing on Sunday.
The visitors have picked up 17 cards this term, four more than their hosts, and look set to keep the referee busier than Marseille will at the Stade Velodrome.
One of Toulouse’s potentially many cards could come the way of Niko Sigur. The Canadian midfielder loves to snap into tackles and is a prime candidate for a card, having picked up two in just 335 Ligue 1 minutes.
