Manchester United v Ipswich Town Prediction: Hosts to bounce back in 11/1 Bet Builder

Manchester United will be aiming to put their shock defeat at Hull City on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season behind them when they welcome another of the newly promoted teams, Ipswich Town, to Old Trafford on Sunday.

It was a day to forget for United at the MKM Stadium, as first-half goals from Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy helped Hull to a memorable 2-0 victory and turned up the heat on Michael Carrick and his side even at this early stage of the season.

Carrick will expect his team to bounce back on Sunday, but Ipswich have started life back in the Premier League on a positive note, beating Sunderland on the opening weekend before following up with a 3-1 success over Leicester City in the EFL Cup.

Alternative Bet - Marcus Rashford to score or assist @ 4/5

Manchester United v Ipswich Town Prediction

Best Bet: Manchester United to win and both teams to score @ 7/4

It was a dismal afternoon on Humberside for United but they will have had eight days to lick their wounds by the time they kick off on Sunday and their record against Ipswich is impressive.

The Red Devils are unbeaten in the last eight meetings between the two sides, winning six, a run that includes five successive home victories and the sequence began with their famous 9-0 victory in March 1995.

The most recent clash between the two sides ended in a 3-2 win for United at Old Trafford in February 2025, a result made all the more impressive given the hosts played over half the match with 10 men.

That result should at least give Ipswich belief that they can score on Sunday, especially given they have started this season by netting five goals across two games in league and cup.

Gary O'Neil's side will be no pushovers, but United's need for a response, coupled with their impressive record against Ipswich, suggests they should pick up their first three points of the season and start to put their Hull nightmare behind them.

Alternative Bet: Marcus Rashford to score or assist @ 4/5

The jury still remains out among United supporters regarding Marcus Rashford's return to the first-team fold following loan spells at Aston Villa and Barcelona, with the England international making his appearance for the club since December 2024 as a half-time substitute against Hull.

Rashford's introduction had a positive effect as he created four chances, more than any other United player, and he should be rewarded with a place in Carrick's starting XI despite speculation linking him with another move away before the close of the transfer window.

The 28-year-old's last United goals came in a 4-0 victory over Everton in December 2024, while the week before that he netted the opener in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich at Portman Road.

Later that season after joining Villa on loan, Rashford again had a say against Ipswich, providing an assist, and he could have another decisive role to play when he faces the Tractor Boys on Sunday.

Only two teams had more shots on the opening weekend than United's tally of 21 and forward Bryan Mbeumo was responsible for four of those, two of which hit the target.

Mbeumo also has previous against Ipswich, scoring a brace for former club Brentford in a 4-3 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium in October 2024, the second of which was a 96th-minute winner.

As for the visitors, midfielder Marcelino Nunez is one of only two players to have started both matches this season, and he certainly caught the eye in the cup win over Leicester.

The Chilean scored a brace in that game and not only did both strikes come from outside the penalty area, the second was an astonishing effort from fully 45 yards out.

Nunez will certainly fancy his chances if he is given any opportunity to let fly from range.

To complete the bet builder, it is certainly worth siding with two or more goals to be scored, a scenario that has occurred in six of Ipswich's last seven games stretching back to last season.
