Juventus v Napoli Prediction: McTominay not shot shy in 31/4 bet builder

Juventus and Napoli have already fallen well off the pace in the Serie A title race and the pressure will be on when they meet in Turin on Sunday evening.

The two sides came into the weekend sitting a full 11 points behind early-season pacesetters Inter Milan and Lazio, with Juve's form having particularly stuttered over recent weeks, as they have registered just two wins in their last seven league games.

Napoli are faring a little better after a difficult start under Massimiliano Allegri, with Wednesday's 4-1 win at Monza seeing them move level on points with the Old Lady.

Allegri is of course a familiar face to Juventus supporters, having won five Serie A titles across two trophy-laden spells in charge, while current Juve boss Luciano Spalletti ended Napoli's 33-year wait for a third Scudetto in 2023.

With familiar foes in either dugout and both teams needing the points to kick their seasons into gear, Sunday's meeting at Allianz Stadium could prove to be blockbuster viewing.

Juventus v Napoli

Juventus v Napoli Prediction

Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals @ 4/5

Juventus have been scoring freely in the Europa League, netting nine goals across their first three league-phase contests, but it has been a different story in Serie A.

Spalletti's side have netted an underwhelming 11 goals in nine domestic games and they drew a blank for the second time in their last three league fixtures during Wednesday's 2-0 loss at Genoa.

Forwards Randal Kolo Muani and Nick Woltemade both have three goals for the season, but only one of those has come in the league.

Juve are at least reasonably robust defensively, conceding just 10 times, so it is no surprise that seven of the Old Lady's nine league matches this season have featured fewer than three goals.

Napoli offer a lot more going forward, as evidenced by the four they struck at Monza during the week, but their record away to Juventus is poor, as they lost on 11 of their last 15 trips.

The Partenopei have not even scored on their last three visits to Allianz Stadium and with Juventus, at least domestically, faltering in front of goal, it is difficult to see this one being anything but low scoring.

Alternative Bet: Juventus to win @ 5/4

Home advantage is always important, but that feels particularly pronounced when these two meet, as not only have Juventus won 11 of the last 15 meetings in Turin, but Napoli have triumphed in seven straight clashes at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Juve won last season's corresponding fixture 3-0 and despite their recent struggles, high-flying Lazio are the only visiting side to have won at Allianz Stadium this term.

Napoli were big winners at Monza during the week, but in their previous away match they were beaten at another newly-promoted side, Venezia.

A victory against a traditional rival could be the kind of result that sparks Juventus' season into life and they will fancy their chances of ensuring Napoli make the long journey back south empty-handed.

With Napoli failing to score on their last three trips to Allianz Stadium and Juventus looking much better defensively than they are going forward, it seems sensible to start this bet builder by backing both teams not to score.

One player that could provide an attacking threat for Napoli is Scott McTominay, who has been keen to make up for lost time after returning from minor heart surgery.

The Scotland international has fired off 21 shots in his last four appearances alone and his chances of having three more on Sunday appear high, especially if Napoli end up chasing the game.

Napoli have been Serie A's most disciplined side this season, at least on paper, as they have given away the fewest fouls (74) and picked up the fewest yellow cards (seven)

Juventus have also kept their card tally low, receiving just 10 yellows across their nine league fixtures, so the likelihood of the card count rising above three appears low.
